The Riviera Nayarit is the stretch of beaches that begin just north from Puerto Vallarta. It shares Bandaras bay with Puerto Vallarta but also extends further north to quieter communities past Punta de Mita and beyond.
A very lively and popular surf community approx 45 minutes north is the small town of Sayulita. There is much good shopping and dining as well as good places to catch a very basic (and very inexpensive) massage
The gated area around Punta Mita just south from Sayulita is popular for luxury golf resorts
For checking out a pristine local beach off the beaten path don’t miss San Pancho (San Francisco) – it doesn’t get much less developed than San Pancho!
